Goodbye 2009

The end of another year..the end of a decade, in fact [actually i think the decade should be from 2001-2010, but let's just go with this :p]. In this past decade I went through secondary school, junior college and three and a half years of university. I picked up some really great friends, for whom I am ever grateful, along the way.

2009 was a year of unexpected happenings, some good and some bad. One of the best, and most unexpected, is my relationship. One of the worst, the passing of my paternal grandmother which unfortunately I had no time to really deal with due to the fact that I had just started my internship on the day she passed away. While my family spent the days together remembering her, I spent my days travelling to and from Jurong and by the time I used to get home everyone would disperse. It's hard to believe she's gone and sad to think that she won't be around to witness any of her own grandchildren's weddings especially since she was always writing little songs and poems and singing at the weddings of other family members. She's greatly missed. I have one grandparent left, my maternal grandmother, and I have to make more of an effort to spend time with her.

This year also saw me accomplishing some feats I had never thought I would. Running 5 km and then 10 km and ending off the year with a 21.1 km half-marathon. Before Jun 28, I had never run more than 3.something k in my life and didn't even think I would even be able to run 5 km. But now I know I can run 4x that. Even though I was pretty much coerced into running, I'm proud of what I've achieved.

One thing that hasn't changed this year (and I really gotta wonder if it ever will) is the state of my room. The colour has changed after many many years and the Man U posters are gone but the mess is everlasting. I had such big hopes for my room this year..oh well..maybe in 2010 :s

My friends who graduated this year have all faced challenges but they all survived and are standing strong and they will keep trying and I'm proud of all of them.

I had a good year and as usual, I hate leaving the year behind because it just marks the fact that time is passing and age is catching up. The limited time we have here becomes more limited with each passing year and we still have to much to see, do and achieve.

Gotta start the new year on a positive note though so I am looking forward to 2010 and the adventures it brings! Let's hope it's an even better year for everyone :)

Err

OMG WHERE DID THE BREAK GO???

Back to school tomorrow, haven't studied the slightest bit of Mandarin even though it's the first lesson of the week..have a mid-term on Tuesday which I am desperately studying for now. One of my project groups seems to think that we have a draft paper due on Tuesday afternoon which I swear I heard nothing about..it's the second half of the term so my half-credit module is starting and I will now have school on Wednesdays as well.

Back to chaos tomorrow..looking forward to December..

Ooh Wee

Just realised that on the 26th of this month, it'll be the 5th year anniversary of this blog! Life seemed a lot more interesting/fun/carefree 5 years ago..

To sum up yesterday's post; the meeting made me realise that I am seriously growing up and by next year once I'm out of school and looking for job I will actually have to handle such things as my finances and insurance stuff independently. And I also realised that it seems like a good thing to make long-term plans which I honestly do not like doing. I'm more of a go-with-the-flow kind of person and now I'm thinking..should I actually have some plans??

I dunno I dunno I dunno

Financial Planning ?!

Ok so I just had my first ever meeting with a financial consultant. Through a friend's recommendation a meeting was set-up and after I postponed it twice (mainly because I forgot but also because I had a ton of stuff to do), it finally took place today. It was interesting but half the time I really just wanted to start laughing out loud because today I had to think about thinks that I have seriously never thought of in my life!

So obviously financial planning is planning for the future right and I was thinking ok so it's gonna mainly be about making my money work for me which is cool. It was a little about that but also about a whole lot of other serious stuff such as: When do you plan to get married ?!?!?!?! How much do you plan to set aside for you wedding ?!?!?!?! How much do you plan to set aside for your house ?!?!?!?! Car ?!?!?!

Huh?!What?!Huh?! I've always known I would want these things in the future but for some strange reason it never occured to me that I would actually have to plan and save and set aside huge sums of money for them. So when faced with these questions, I drew some serious blanks. One of the first questions was: When do you plan to get married? Me: Errrrr I HAVE NO IDEA. Then when asked how much I wanted to set aside for my house/wedding, I was like..how much do these things even cost??? I don't know!

Ok I gotta continue this later if not I'm gonna be late for my project meeting!

Lazy Sundays

i absolutely love lazy sundays..and i actually think they're really important to have. after running around or being stressed by school work all week, there just needs to be one day where you don't have to answer to anyone or prepare for something or go anywhere and cut just sit back and seriously seriously relax. i always seem to be on the go and having so many things on my mind that need to be dealt with that on sundays all i wanna do is be blank.

unfortunately..school work mostly gets in the way of my lazy sundays too and I've gotta do research before my project meeting tmr afternoon..by the way, I'm supposedly on mid-term "break" this week but i'm already scheduled to go back to school on monday AND tuesday..goodness only knows what else is going to come up!

ugh..school..research..shit..screw it all!!!!

Today's a Lazy Sunday :)

Laziness is Poisonous

I've got work to do..but I don't wanna do any of it.

I've got runs to train for..but getting up and getting moving just seems like it's not worth it.

I'm going on a holiday next week, in the middle of my school term no less, and have stuff that I must get done before I go. You would think that I should start.

I have a group meeting tomorrow before which I have to complete my part of a summary..but I haven't even read the article!

I think......it's time I get started!
i think i just might be the lousiest girlfriend ever..really..being one just doesn't seem to come naturally to me..

i just realized (now when i reached home after spending like 3 hours with him) that it didn't even occur to me to give the dude a hug when we met..after 3+ weeks of not seeing each other!

i need help...

Monday, August 17, 2009

went for a run today..my 4+k route out of gardens to serangoon north avenue 1 and back again. it was better than my previous run last tuesday but i was still really tired after. I'm really not sure how I'm gonna be able to do the 10k this Sunday when i haven't been running consistently at all :S I plan to run on wednesday and thursday as well..really hope I go through with it if not I'm doomed on Sunday! I mapped out a new route on Daily Mile which I might try out on wednesday..6.5km!

so today was the first day back to school, the start of my fourth and final year in SMU. Started off with Mandarin class..pronounciation is seriously not easy..and super embarrassing was the fact that we had a 'listening test' thingamajig which was supposed to be super simple..and i was the ONLY person in class who got stuff wrong..MALUATING!!

second class was social cognition..that class has a heavy workload man..the prof wants us to, in groups, read one of the 4 assigned articles each week and prepare a 30-40 minute presentation in case we get selected to present..EVERY SINGLE WEEK! which means i am actually going to have to start reading tomorrow (doing work on the second day of school..what is the world coming to?!) and my first meeting of the term is on wednesday..............

ugh ugh ugh..

I am seriously amazed with the amount of social networking/status updating sites there are out there..in my efforts to find out different ways of marketing SportsHook, I am now a member of Plurk, StumbleUpon and Twitter. I've also checked out Digg and LinkedIn though I haven't been tempted to join them yet. Really wonder just how many more of these sorts of sites there are :S

More to update on about our MJ memorial on Saturday and paintball on Sunday but seeing as I am at work right now, hehe doesn't exactly seem like an appropriate time to be blogging :p

Oh and I finally got some bids..but I don't really want them..just have to deal with them..ook laterz!

Sunday, July 19, 2009

a better sunday than the last, though it's been a rather tiring week altogether what with travelling to jurong on a daily basis and having stuff on almost each night after work..the whole week i've been longing to sleep in but not quite possible when you're on an internship! anyway I've enjoyed my six weeks of it so far..just 4 more to go now and then I'll be back to school.

school school school and bidding for classes for school..that's the troublesome part since I didn't manage to secure the psych and marketing classes that i really wanted in the previous bidding round. not quite sure what to do right now. bid for those classes again although they're 0 vacancy or check out other stuff..the lecehness of bidding! oh and the e$ i've wasted...aaah! ok nvm!

and i now owe 191 food that i have to cook because there indeed was a bus called SuperBus...wth right?!

SportsHook

dead though this blog is, a use for it has been found! hehe the promotion of SportsHook (http://www.sportshook.com/) -- an online social network for sports enthusiasts in Singapore to find like-minded people to play their favourite sports with or learn a new sport with or just discuss sports with! so basically it's all about sports and games and the people who love them :)

there's a paintball game being organized this sunday, 26th July, 12pm at Sembawang. Check it out here: http://www.sportshook.com/all/events/view/shootout
